Tasting Notes

“This wine is different. I have always loved working with Sauvignon Blanc and have been working with vigneron Dave Rado and the Pemberley vineyards since the late 1980’s. With the Pemberley Sauvignon Blanc, I have endeavoured to produce a textural wine quite apart from herbaceous or overly fruity styled Sauvignon Blanc wines. I have always enjoyed pushing the boundaries of extended maturation on yeast lees with a small amount of barrel fermented wine.”

Vintage Conditions

In 2015 we had a fairy normal Pemberton spring, followed by a warm, dry summer. Ideal ripening conditions with even day temperatures produced healthy canopies carrying low to medium yields. This vintage provided intense fruit showing wild gooseberry and nettle flavours and a little more classical herbaceous flavours than last vintage.

Vineyard

Planted in 1995 in the Eastbrook area of Pemberton, the vineyard was planted on deep karri loams. The vines are cane pruned and grown using minimal chemicals.

Winemaking Notes

This wine is a further extension of the textural style I have been working on for some years now, with the wine spending 7 months on its yeast lees. This is a winemaking style that is becoming increasingly popular in Australia, which has resulted in much more interesting Sauvignon Blanc wines. This vintage again I fermented juice in two Hungarian oak barriques to add extra complexity.
